Measles in Auckland

posted in: Urgent News

Measles is continuing to spread in the Auckland community with many of the positive cases being admitted to hospital

Your best protection is vaccination

Measles is a vaccine preventable disease (95% effective after one vaccine and 99% with a booster offering lifetime immunity)

There is a strong recommendation for vaccination of the following people to prevent further infection in the community:

  • Anyone under 50 years of age who has had no previous measles vaccine
  • 15month and 4 year olds who have not had their scheduled MMR vaccine
  • If you are travelling to areas of high risk (refer the MOH website for the relevant countries – see link below)

Do you think you have measles?

Do you have a fever AND any of the following symptoms:

  • Cough
  • Runny Nose
  • Sore red eyes
  • Rash

If so, please stay outside of the medical centre and call us on 09 372 5005
