Dermot has lived on Waiheke since 2010 with his wife Karen; he moved here because his family has been on the island for the past 30 years. He has worked in medical centres on the island since then, as well as doing locums in rural Australia and other parts of New Zealand.
He graduated as a doctor from the University of Otago and completed his specialist GP training in Auckland.
Besides having worked in Auckland City and Waiheke, he has also worked for some years in a number of countries including India, Vanuatu and Australia, and has experience and expertise in General Practice, Emergency Medicine, Rural and Remote Health, and Tropical Medicine.
Additionally he has been a teacher of New Zealand medical students and GP registrars in the context of General Practice.
